Where do you go for summer threads for the baby or child that’s preternaturally hip? If you’re smart, you go straight to Rock Your Baby.

We gave our Facebook followers a sneak peek at the new Spring-Summer 2013 collection from Rock Your Baby and Rock Your Kid (the new name for their children’s wear range) at Kids Instyle recently. Now here it is in all its fabulous glory.

This label has been a staple for Babyology offspring for so long now, we forget how long it’s been since Sydney sisters Johanne Walsh and Caroline Nesbitt first began turning out their rockabilly inspired duds for babies and kids. And, year after year, we still can’t believe how it is that kids’ clothes this damn fine can be so damn affordable. But that’s the Rock Your Baby way.

First, let’s show you the girls. The thing we love most about Rock Your Baby (and Rock Your Kid) for girls is how the froth and bubble gets you in – have you ever seen a bunch of skirts more girlishly divine – before the edgy cool tees hit you with a huge sucker punch. Now, because I know you’re all going to ask, that way sweet skirt with pompoms – yes, actual fluffy pompoms – floating in the layers of tulle is Rock Your Kids’ aptly named Celebration Skirt ($39.95). Best be quick if you want one, we’re confidently predicting it’ll be a sell-out.

Those two gotta-have-em tees paired with the pretty Fairy Floss skirts ($39.95) up there are Kitten Bandit and Cat Girl ($34.95 each) but there’s so many more stunners in the collection, we dare you to stop at one. My own daughter will be the lucky new owner of five Rock Your Kid tees this summer – I just couldn’t help myself. If you have a really little one, you’ll be very pleased to know that all the same designs on the tees – boys and girls – are available in onesies too.

The dresses are also eye-catchingly gorgeous, with retro appeal that’s paradoxically modern all at the same time. There’s something very rock n’ roll-esque about the oversized buttons, sweet polkadots or florals and A-line frills of the cotton Audrey dress (above, $49.95). It also comes in a puff-bottomed romper for babies. And don’t even get me started on the Peter Pan dress (below, $49.95), with its crochet collar and jaunty pockets. The blue version is hanging in my daughter’s closet just waiting for an appropriately sunny day.

The boys’ threads are just as rock cool, with inspiration from Nirvana and Bowie in the Come as You Are and Stardust tees. Other favourites are the Leopard and Artemis designs (all come in onesies too, remember). Now, it must be said that though all these are technically for the boys, they’re pretty damn cool for the girls too. Just take another look at the first two photos in this post if you need further proof.

Boys also get a host of shorts, surfer style or rockstar-meets-skater hip, with some of the coolest fabric patterns we’ve seen so far for this coming season. Natch, they’ve been designed by the Rock Your Baby gals, so what else would you expect. Check the Barkcloth shorts and tell me I’m not wrong, They start from $39.95.
