Playtime’s over folks! Well, for a few months at least…

After three jam-packed days showcasing the latest and greatest for babies and kids, Playtime Tokyo is over. Thankfully, Babyologists can linger awhile – we’ve rounded up our favourite exhibitors to give you a summary of the best from the show.

Does it come any cuter than Hélène Cousin Bébé? I think not. The divine coats and pinafores will have you wishing we were heading straight back into winter, especially with the cosy warm colour palette of chocolate, mushroom pink and charcoal (shown above and below).

Although the strong graphic prints of debuting baby range Bibpa have a distinctly Scandinavian feel, there’s no doubt about the kawaii-cute Japanese design details. Designer Tetsuji Hamasaki (also behind the sweet Alohaloha collection) has created funky halter neck rompers that are versatile and unique.

It was love at first sight when I spotted the Winnie-the-Pooh collection by Atsuyo et Akiko. Rest assured it’s Pooh and friends in their original guise (as opposed to the commercialised cartoon version that is seen around). As well as t-shirts, there are very sweet Winnie-the-Pooh cushions available.

We’ve ohh-ed and ahh-ed over Cri de Joie previously and the forthcoming collections, showcased at Playtime Tokyo are again, altogether lovely. Pleat skirts, ruffled blouses and winter shorts strike a balance between playful and prim (shown above and below).

The small but strong collection from Atsuko Nosé is all about dressing up – the designer has literally tied a bow on these pretty tailored party pieces!

Check out Japanese label Bleu H – it reminds me of Benetton in its eighties heyday – gelato colours, patterns on patterns and clever use of layers.

Have some fun with homewares and accessories from Madame Mo. The kooky French label has all sorts of bright pieces featuring signature cartoon-like characters including an amazing Japanese alphabet primer.

For intrigue, check out Pokefasu – a collection of oddball characters that, when lined up, melt your heart in the way that pooches at a lost dogs’ home might (they are actually brooches)!

Lastly, the ancient tradition of tying knots becomes playtime with Stocs – we may need to have a closer look at this new ‘construction toy’ at a later stage but needless to say the pictures look fabulous.
