You can feel the anticipation in the air. Yes, Spanish fashion powerhouse Zara is finally here and Babyology is giving you a sneak peek before the doors of the first Australian store open to the public tomorrow (April 20).

Here’s a quick Zara cheat-sheet to get you up to speed:

Zara hails from Spain where the first store was opened in 1975. Fast forward thirty-six years and the Zara fashion juggernaut has more than 1700 stores in seventy-seven countries (which until now, didn’t include Australia – thank goodness the wait is over!).

Zara’s first Australian outlet opens for business tomorrow in the Westfield Sydney shopping centre, Sydney but Babyology has organised a sneak peek today at what’s in store for local customers. Check back here later for a first look inside!

What we can tell you already is that the store boasts more than 1400 square metres of women’s, men’s and children’s fashion. On show for the opening will be Zara’s Autumn-Winter collection, specially designed and developed for the Southern Hemisphere. New products will arrive in store from the Spanish headquarters twice a week.

It’s all possible because each and every stage of the business, from design and manufacture of the clothing to distribution and sale is carefully managed by a highly responsive in-house team. And I mean highly responsive. Zara’s designers continuously assess customer preferences and demands and then create clothing to meet that demand. With the benefit of ‘in-house’ design, manufacture and distribution, a new design can go from drawing board to shop front in just two weeks! It’s effectively ‘fashion on-call’.

New designs are dispatched twice a week to Zara stores. So in an average year, Zara offers up to 18,000 new styles to its devoted customers. Take that, Sydney!
