She found fame as Australia’s “kaftan queen”. Now designer Camilla Franks has launched a mini line for little princes and princesses.

Camilla – whose signature designs are worn the world over by celebrities including Oprah, Gwen Stefani, Beyonce and our own Elle and Nicole – this week unveiled her first full fashion collection for children. And, of course, Babyology was there to bring it straight to you.

The new mini Gypset kidswear line borrows straight from Camilla’s latest spring summer 2012 women’s collection, Gypset. (that’s gypsy meets jetsetter, in case you’re wondering), with the same brilliant colours, bold prints and effortless cool that is so typically Camilla.

There’s tiny kaftans, of course, but also sweet drawstring dresses, shirred tops with matching bloomers and, for the boys, kaftan-style shirts.

The launch at Camilla’s Bondi Beach emporium wasn’t just about the fashions, for all their obvious fabulousness. The entire Milla by Camilla launch was quintessentially Camilla, with an understated but paradoxically decadent panache that couldn’t help but impress.

I took my two youngest daughters along for the fun, and can’t be sure whether my five year old was more taken with the elaborate craft activities set up for the littlest guests or the refreshments. Fruit peacock, anyone?
