I had a sense of both excitement and disappointment when I first saw the debut Gypsy Kids collection, about to hit the Australian market in November this year. Excitement because the styles and fabrics are fresh, exciting and unique. Disappointment because Gypsy Kids has been created for ‘pre-walkers’ (sizes 3, 6 and 12 months) and my kids are too big to fit these exquisite pieces.

The collection has been inspired by traditional clothing from around the world – Japanese kimonos, Indian kaftans, Chinese cheongsam and a touch of British preppiness, combined to give babies a certain ‘global’ style.

Rich colours, trans-seasonal styles as well as unisex, boy and girl pieces, allow the range to be mixed and matched. Personally, I love to see babies dressed in bright colours and strong patterns and I know I would have pounced on the red pieces for my daughter when she was a bub. The small details make Gypsy Kids stand out – the frill on the kimono cross-over, or the contrast piping on the pants make these clothes very appealing.

Gypsy Kids has also created a simple range of bedlinen and decorator accessories, all 100 percent cotton and using their beautiful signature fabrics – so thankfully I can own a little bit of Gypsy Kids!

Although we are almost done with this winter, I can’t help but look forward to what’s instore from Gypsy Kids in 2010, when they have promised knits, vests and blankets in mohair and lambs wool.
