For the jolliest of sweet somethings, say goodbye to standard after-dinner mints this Christmas and delight your guests with a piece of reindeer chocolate bark instead!

This reindeer-themed snack is fun for the kids to put together (and the more hands the better when working with quick setting chocolate) – they’ll get a kick out of creating this sweet treat. Better yet, aside from the bag of chocolate, you really only need a handful of everything else and you’re good to go Christmas crackers in the kitchen.

Christmas reindeer chocolate bark ingredients

  • 375g milk chocolate melts
  • Parker’s mini pretzels
  • Red M&Ms
  • Wilton’s candy eyeballs
  • Striped mints or peppermint candy canes

Method

  • You will need to cut the pretzels in half to create reindeer antlers - a serrated knife is the best, with a gentle sawing action. I won’t lie, you will break quite a few before you perfect your technique!
  • Put your peppermints in a snap lock bag and smash them between a tea towel so they splinter into tiny mint shards.
  • Line a flat baking sheet with greaseproof paper. Have all that you need to decorate the chocolate within arm’s length ready to go. Speed is of the essence when putting this together!
  • Reserve a few tablespoons of the chocolate and tip the rest into a heat proof bowl. Melt the chocolate using the double-boiler method over the stove, or in 30 second increments in the microwave, stirring between each burst until completely melted. Remove from the heat and add the reserved tablespoons of chocolate, stirring until it has also melted.
  • Pour and spread the chocolate onto the baking sheet. I spread mine about half a centimetre to a centimetre thick.
  • Quickly position your M&Ms reindeer noses, remembering you still need room for eyes, antlers and cutting.
  • Add the eyes, the antlers and finish off with a dusting of peppermint shards. Let the chocolate slab set properly for 20 minutes in the fridge.
  • Cut carefully with a sharp knife, creating pieces with reindeer and off-cuts of peppermint laden chocolate. Yum!
