For many Aussie families, Christmas means spending time in the sun, enjoying a break from regular routine and celebrating with friends and family. So take a break from the chaos that comes with Christmas shopping, decorating and organising and indulge in a beverage that thinks outside the beer can.
Here are our favourite cocktails (and mocktails) to tantalise your taste buds and possibly leave you festively tipsy, no matter what the occasion.
1. The boozy Christmas brunch bevy
It’s Christmas so opening a bottle at 11am is perfectly acceptable. This fruity drink is more fruit than alcohol and goes great with the big brekkie.
- 2 ripe strawberries, divided
- 1 1/2 ounces aquavit
- 3/4 ounce fresh lemon juice
- 3/4 ounce Simple Syrup
- 1/4 ounce Campari
- 4 drops orange-blossom water
Place a strawberry in a cocktail shaker. Add aquavit, lemon juice, simple syrup, Campari, orange-blossom water, and 3 large ice cubes; cover and shake well. Fill a glass with the mixture and garnish with remaining strawberry.
2. Sangria – the tropical treat
Is there anything more idyllic than sitting around the pool during the Christmas holidays watching the kids play? Yes – pairing this peaceful moment with an icy beverage. Sangria is the drink you need for this!

Simply pour half your beer into a glass of lemonade. Add some ice, give it a stir and you’ve got yourself an old-fashioned shandy!

Kids deserve a little bit of a treat on Christmas too. In addition to enjoying hot Milo in the morning, give them something festive and fun during your Christmas lunch – Grinch Punch.
- 125ml green cordial

Mix all ingredients together in a pitcher and pour into individual glasses. Add a cherry or another red fruit to give it that extra festive feel.
