Christmas suncatcher ornament
Why not make some pretty suncatchers to brighten up your windows this Christmas?
You can also hang these colourful ornaments on your Christmas tree. If you do all the tricky cutting yourself, you can get your child to help you stick on the cellophane colours.
What you need
- a CD to trace around
- 1 x A5 piece of white card (to make a template)
- 1 x A4 piece of black card or construction paper
- colourful scraps of cellophane
- glue stick
- craft knife
- pencil
- ruler
- small piece of ribbon
- hole punch
Instructions
- Use a CD to trace around and create the main outline of your suncatcher on a piece of white card. This will be your template.
- Sketch out a stained glass pattern on your suncatcher template.
- Cut out the template and use it to trace out two identical suncatcher frames onto the black card.
- Match up the two frames, so that you know which side to glue. If they are not exactly symmetrical you will need to be mindful of which way is ‘up’ or they won’t match when you glue them together.
- Spread glue across the upper side of one of the black frames.
- Stick on scraps of coloured cellophane.
- Glue the other frame over the top. Trim off the excess cellophane (if any) from around the edges.
Use a hole punch to create a hole in the top of the suncatcher and add some ribbon for hanging. The best place to hang these is on a window so they can catch the sunlight.
